I have gotten some comments by readers that ask why I hate Apple. The plain fact of the matter is I don’t, but what they hate is criticism of their beloved company. I call Microsoft and other companies to task all the time here. I don’t discriminate I am a equal opportunity call them to the carpet writer.
One question I was asked today is how come I don’t cover the good stuff Apple is doing, well I hate to say it, what they are doing is nothing revolutionary. They are changing chip sets to give Apple users more speed under the hood with less heat and more battery reserve. Well hello hate to point this out but what do you think computer manufactures have been doing in the PC space for a long time.
The only thing I see cool on the hardware front is their power plug, thats innovation everything else is a company that have had a series of computers that have been underpowered for a long time. Mac users are finally going to be able to enjoy the same computing speed many of us have enjoying in the PC world for a very long time.
Has Apple given us anything this year at MacWorld that takes computing to the next level, I don’t thinks so. Has Microsoft brought us anything in recent times that takes us to the next level, I don’t think so. So before I get more hate mail, I don’t hate Apple sure I don’t use my Mini that much but guess what I have a full sweet of great tools that do what I need them to do. The mac operating system does not make me more productive in fact I would say it’s about equal and I will say it again a computer is a computer is a computer. The majority of people that are buying PC’s are surfing the net, writing letters, doing a little book keeping, editing some pictures and a few are editing audio. Guess what I have been doing those items since the release of the Windows 3.1 and it is not rocket science folks, it really isn’t.
If you want to pay a premium from a single source vendor to delivery what is admittedly a pretty computer then so be it. But don’t try to convince me that the operating system is superior or the applications will cause me to be more productive because guess what I’m not drinking the Koolaid and I will be able to buy 2 machines for every one that I could buy from Apple. That saves me money and with four kids that are growing up fast I can outfit them each with a PC and they will be as productive at a fraction of the cost.
