…But if Ethan (Effern) Johnson is going to stop podcasting I wanted him to know I was planning to nominate him in the business category of the Podcast Awards. Nominations open on June 15th.
The best single podcast I have heard this year — so I guess that would be “ever” — was Effern’s “From Grape to Glass”. That show featured a full length interview with steel magnolia Audrey House of Chateau Aux Arc. The show is singularly charming and full of more motivational intel than you’re going to get from 12 scrapbooks full of Tom Peters effluvium. That’s because Audrey is real and there’s no dopey “professional” production getting in the way. Perhaps, Effern you should get the oenophiles at Grape Radio interested in that show.
What I think Ethan needs is the kind of support group that we have over at Techpodcasts.com; that will be coming soon in the form of Todd Cochrane‘s Podcast Connect. These groups do have some commercial ambitions but the advertising — when it comes — will not be mandatory. The biggest thing podcast co-ops like these can do is provide support, advice and feedback. Especially when the podcaster toils to present the kind of wide ranging, theme-based shows that Ethan does.
