Bryan's Pick

Bryan’s Pick, “ObjectBar”

It’s that time again, a slow Sunday in Tech news brings the sixth edition of the new “Bryan’s Pick.” Bryan’s Pick is a useful and time saving program that I recommend for anyone all ages that makes things in life a little easier.

Now, I have no clue why, but I dedicated this week to trickin’ out XP to look just like the Mac OS X GUI, and in this edition of Bryan’s Pick, I’ll show you how, with links to other alternatives.

In my opinion, Stardock is one of the best companies that write beautiful programs- well, looking at the GUI. All the programs that Stardock tweaks Window’s GUI are simply the best. A few to name- Cursor XP, IconPackager, Windows Blinds, Object Bar, Skin Studio, DesktopX, and so many more. I’m here to review, Object Bar.

PROS: Just a great program to skin windows with, and easy to write a skin too. This program specifically skins the taskbar to whatever you would like, OS X, Longhorn, ect. There are also hundreds of skins available at wincustomize.com. Now, usually these programs are strictly XP, but Object Bar is compatible with 98, ME, 2000, AND XP, so it’s likely that you’ll be able to use it.

CONS: Running this program on a slow system will bog it down, and cause it to look a little weird with floating menus that don’t go away. So that’s just something to be aware of; but if you have over 256MB and over 1GHz, it should run fine, just like the rest of your system. Other than that- I love it. I haven’t seen any bugs in it (yet) so that concludes, Bryan’s Pick

ObjectBar is Free to try; $20.00 to buy at 2.72MB. Check it out! That’s Bryan’s Pick for the week of August 25th. Check back next Sunday for Object Bar’s Successor, Object Dock.
