Electricity it is the lifeblood of a nation. When the power goes out people realize how much it affects our daily lives. One thing that has been interesting in watching television coverage is how the power grids are all tied together. It is obvious that better isolation is needed. [CNN]

I remember a major Northeast US outage in the early 60s. Nine months later, there was an explosion of births. Candles were not required, but would have added to the ambiance ;^)
