Yes the headline is correct. Someone with absolutely to much time on his hands scanned some vinyl records programmed up a decoder and has some samples of his results. The results are mixed.
But he should have done what I did a couple of years ago. I have a high end turn-table and I made digital masters of my analog records. This was accomplished with some cabling and spending a lot of time hearing some tunes I have not heard in a while. Not perfect but there are some albums that I absolutely love that are not on CD that I will want to listen to when I’m 90. Back in the 80’s I purchased a high end Teac reel to reel and have a very serious collection of tapes that have the same data on them. Which reminds me I need to replace the heads on the reel and if any of you have a source for these types of parts drop me a line.
But my mom has a large collection of Antique records which if he gets the decoding down may be worth scanning a few of those and see how they play. [Digital Needle]
