Mini Hard Drive Hits Market

First IBM introduced the 450 meg mini hard drive that was about the size of a matchbox. I predicted it would soon be in MP3 players that did not happen primarily because of price and power consumption. Now a new startup company “Cornice” has developed a 1.5gb, 1-inch hard drive and whats more exciting is 12 companies have signed on to introduce products with the new device.

I predict in several years it will be very common to carry “ALL” of your data with you in your pocket or wallet. I already carry a 512 meg USB stick and most people are pretty amazed that I carry it. But they are easily converted especially if they are still bitching about a floppy not holding enough. Some security managers do not care for the devices though as it makes it to easy to walk out the front door with data that should not be. [Cnet]
