Recording Industry and Webcasters make a deal

A agreement reached yesterday between Recording Industry and Large Webcaster hopefully will bring an end to a nearly year long battle between the two industries. I am hopeful that both partied walked away happy. The following statement sums it up.

“The deal calls for Webcasters including Yahoo!, America Online, Microsoft and RealNetworks to pay slightly lower per-song royalty fees than those imposed last year by the U.S. Copyright Office, which still must sign off on the agreement”

The small mom and pop shop Webcasters are still protected under separate legislation but can opt to use the new rates. [Silicon Valley]
