Rouge Radio in Honolulu

We went to the beach today. I always take a radio and being lazy was doing a Auto Scan and found a rouge radio station. Not one to miss a opportunity I tried to figure out where the guy was transmitting from. Being we were very close to downtown Honolulu with a lot of high rises. I gave up rather quickly but it was interesting to listen to his music and periodic pre-recorded message.

I think he was worried about the FCC but his disclaimer was that he was not transmitting with an overpowered transmitter but a off the shelf personal commercial unit. When we got home tonight it prompted me to do some searching around and I found a couple of articles about products that he may have been using. But I think we will see a lot more of this in the future. Even though it was apparent that the station was coming from a resedential home this could become more common place. Even though Rouge Radio stations have been around for years but let’s see how the feds handle it when it is coming from a car driving around town. [Business Week]
