House, Senate agree to prohibit citizens’ e-mail surveillance

Credit needs to be given to the above headline as I copied it from the Star Tribune it was to good to pass up.

I believe everyone has a right to privacy as outlined by the Constitution and laws that make up this great country. I want my government to be able to find and prosecute the bad guys. I also want my government to be able to obtain search warrants and line tap approvals via normal judicial means. I don’t though like the idea of my government snooping on my e-mail. Not that I have anything to hide as they would get pretty bored reading my mail.

I am not alone in these thoughts most Americans agree that there are currently on the books laws and process’s that allow the proper authorities to snoop if they think the need to and have a compelling case.

Several legislators have included provisions to stop the pentagon from doing this with language added to the budget. The spokesperson from the pentagon says it’s purpose it would be a tool to protect American’s and not used to snoop on people privacy.

I guess I do not understand how can the process our e-mail and not say it’s not snooping on Americans. I would imagine that many of our employers are probably already doing this without our knowledge heck advertisers seem to have figured out what types of products I buy on the net seeing the type of ads I receive in the e-mail. If it turns out that the pentagon gets the go ahead I hope they figure out a way to kill the spam in route to me. [Star Tribune]
