I travel a great deal and last week while in a hotel room the dial-up connection was terrible. I could only stay on-line 30 seconds which really sucked. I had left my Wi-Fi card home by mistake and kicked myself real hard the full 3 days as I knew were some public Wi-Fi spots were in town.
But a article today in the NY Times is showing that public access and small business are really figuring out that if you offer up access customers will come. Heck I already had 3 neighbors detect my Wi-Fi setup in the house and we all have had some interesting chats about it. Maybe it is time for that community COOP now that we have a easy way to interconnect each other.
Bye Bye cable modem hello direct connection on our own T1 may cost me and the neighbors a few more dollars a month but the speed will be worth it. If you live in Hawaii and want to help us kick off public access in Oahu you need to drop me a e-mail immediately. [NY Times]
