2600 DeCSS Lawsuit Not going to Supreme Court

Many of you may not be aware but a court battle has been on-going between 2600 Magazine/Web Site about there posting/linking of the now widely distributed and posted DeCSS DVD de-coding program that was developed by a tennager in Europe. 2600 has decided not to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court. I am sad to see this happen as the Motion Picture Association has scored a major win. Thus we now have legal precedence that by posting a program on one’s site could land you in court even if the program is in itself not in violation of copyright. But if that program can circumvent others copyrighted works get ready to retain a lawyer. As a side not this editor does not feel that the 2600 site is a hackers site. The press use this word to hipe up headlines.[Source New York Times]
