3D Sounds Labs Keeps Audio in Place at CES

3D Sound Labs LogoStereo headphones have been around since the middle of the last century and 3D audio in headphones from the 1990s. Impressive as the spatial effect from 3D can be, the sound is still always relative to the listener as the headphones are on the wearer, whereas speakers position the sound relative to the room or other space.

Until now, that is. 3D Sound Labs new headphones keep sounds in their place, even as the wearer moves their head. Scott finds out more from Maxime Sabahec of 3D Sound Labs on how their headphones keep sounds still.

The 3D Sound One headphones use motion sensors to understand the position of the wearer relative to the sound stage. The embedded gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer send information back to the PC via Bluetooth which then adjusts the positions of the sound in real-time as the person moves. This realism increases the immersive experience and while it’s good for movies, it’s great for VR.

The 3D Sound One headphones are available now for US$299 from Amazon and the 3D Sound Labs website.

Randal Kleiser Films “Defrost” in VR

Defrost VRYou might not know Randal Kleiser’s name, but you’ve almost certainly seen one of his films – he directed Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-JohnHis new production is called Defrost and will be debuting at Sundance.

This is the most significant interview I’ve seen at CES in 2016. Up to this point, I’ve always considered VR to be ‘super 3D’, but when I listened to Randal Kleiser with the authority he brings as a screenwriter, director and producer, I realised that we were seeing the development of a new art form; part cinema, part theatre. Undoubtedly there are challenging  technical problems to be overcome, and a good story is still key, but this is a new way to immerse ourselves in the story like never before.

Watch the interview and let me know in the comments if you feel the same way.

Stream TV Ultra-D Promises Glasses-Free 3D

Stream TV Ultra D logoA few years ago 3D TVs were the hottest tech around but these days, most manufacturers don’t even mention it. 3D for the home was the biggest flop in recent years and while it’s been successful in cinema, the need to wear glasses killed 3D at home. Stream TV Networks have a new technology called Ultra-D which promises 3D without the glasses. Daniel and Todd are keen to know more from Zach Lehman of Stream TV.

Stream TV Network’s Ultra-D is a glasses-free 3D 4K TV technology for the home. The Ultra-3D custom glass screen provides a wide 140 degree 3D sweet spot for viewers, and people outside of this will see a standard 2D image without any blurriness. The Ultra-D technology includes a Qualcomm custom chip which converts 2D media into 3D in real-time with user control over the level of depth. If it’s an HDMI source, it can be converted to 3D.

Production of TVs using Ultra-D technology is expected to start this year. Stream TV have partnered with Pegatron for manufacturing capacity and the first models will be a 65″ TV, a 27″ monitor and a 32″ monitor with smaller TV and tablet screens later.

VUZE Unveiled World’s First Affordable Consumer 360 3D VR Camera at CES 2016

VUZEHumanEyes Technologies, a leader in photographic 3D, animated content, and lenticular graphic arts, has unveiled VUZE, the world’s first consumer, portable 360° 3D VR camera and dedicated software studio that is set to bring immersive content creation to the masses.

Priced under $1,000, the VUZE camera and software studio is both a technological breakthrough as well as a quantum leap forward for the industry that is currently only served by large, complicated devices requiring Hollywood blockbuster type budgets.

The VUZE camera combines advanced 3D and 2D capture technology using 8 Full HD cameras within an easy-to-use “point-and-shoot” form-factor. The VUZE Studio brings groundbreaking advances in 360 3D content creation with near real-time processing (1 minute per minute) and seamless stitching thanks to a proprietary technique called Adaptive Blending that mimics the way the human eye interacts with the brain to form pictures in the mind. Finally, the VUZE agnostic approach means content can be enjoyed on its own lightweight VUZE VR Headset or on ANY VR player, VR headset, cardboard or 3D device or TV.

Featuring a stylish design, the highly portable VUZE camera will be available in a variety of vibrant colors and comes with its own purposely engineered and versatile “selfie stick” and tripod. It’s battery and removable SD card can capture up to one hour of video allowing people to capture and relive every part of the world around them in breathtaking detail.

VUZE has been built on its own innovative technology architecture and is controlled by a dedicated iOS and Android app. Inside the device are 8 Full HD cameras that simultaneously capture images, videos and sound to facilitate full stereophonic and 360° 3D spherical content.

Each camera uses ultra-wide and vertical angle lenses to capture 120° and 180° vertical images and together generate 4K VR content. Within the app, users can see any of the 8 camera views as well as preview and delete content. VUZE can capture both 2D and 3D 360° spherical images and videos and can effortlessly switch between the two. Finally, its internal processing and compression capabilities render easy-to-edit H.264 HD video files that transfer to users’ home computers and laptops.

VUZE will be creating and demonstrating 360 VR throughout CES at the Sands Expo Center, Hall G booth # 82717.

Bevel 3D Smartphone Camera Attachment at CES 2016

c2c19d4a2dcda42f24831c2918091871_originalMatter and Form is bringing their newest smartphone photography accessory– the Bevel 3D camera attachment– to CES 2016.
