Nintendo hasn’t confirmed what the new prices are, but updated listings on Target’s website pointed out by @Wario64 show a $40 price increase for the original Switch, putting it at $339.99. The site lists the Switch OLED getting $50 more expensive at $399.99, while the Switch Lite is priced at $229.99, a $30 increase.
A previously announced price hike for the Switch 1 system in Canada just took effect today, bumping the original Switch and Switch Lite prices by $20 CAD, to $419.99 and $279.99, respectively. The Switch 1 OLED price went up by $40 CAD, to $419.99.
The announcement says that Nintendo is also raising the price of some Switch 2 accessories, certain amiibo, and the Alarmo. The prices of Switch 2 consoles, as well as Switch and Switch 2 games (both physical and digital), aren’t changing.
CNBC reported: Nintendo said Friday it plans to hike the price of its original Switch “family of systems and products” in the U.S.
The price increases, which will take effect Aug. 3, are being made “based on market conditions,” the Japanese company said in a post on its website. It will impact the original Switch console, Switch Lite, and OLED models, as well as some Switch accessories.
The price of the Switch 2 console, along with physical and digital Switch and Switch games, will remain the same for now, Nintendo said. “However, please note that the price adjustments may be necessary in the future,” the company added.
Earlier on Friday, Nintendo reported fiscal first-quarter earnings that beat expectations.
It disclosed that sales of Switch 2 consoles hit 5.82 million since its June 5 release. The company also maintained its forecast of 15 million Switch 2 sales this fiscal year, though analysts suggested that may be conservative.
GameSpot reported: Nintendo has announced that it’s raising the price of the original Switch and other Nintendo products in the US. Switch 2 pricing, however, will remain unchanged — at least for now.
Beginning August 3, the price of the Switch will go up “based on market conditions.” The regular Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, and “select” accessories will get price increases. Game prices, for physical and digital titles, will not change.
The new prices, as reflected on Target’s website, are $230 for the Switch Lite, $340 for the standard Switch, and $400 for the Switch OLED. Original Switch Pro Controllers are now $80, while Switch 1 Joy-Con pairs went up to $10 to $80.
