Flickr Founders Flee From Yahoo

TechCrunch is reporting that Flickr Co-founder Caterina Fake left her position last Friday and other Co-founder Stewart Butterfields’ last day will be July 12th. They will be replaced by Sara Wood and Kakul Srivastava.

Flickr started in 2004 as a photo sharing and gaming site. The photo sharing end took real flight and Yahoo purchased it in 2005. Two years later, Yahoo consolidated it’s Photos page into Flickr. Butterfield and fake are husband and wife.

It makes one really wonder if there is a real Mass Exodus happening. Flickr seemed to be one of the few products Yahoo was doing right. Both resignation announcements came after Microsoft declared that it was not interested in Yahoo anymore.

Valleywag reported in 2007 that Stewart was leaving, however that was a false statement as Stephen clarified he was only taking “Paternity leave”.

On June 13th, Stewart sent an interesting resignation to Brad Garlinghouse. He refered to himself as an “Old tin-smithing” friend and how he was resigning after “87 years of service” to give the new generation a chance. It is a good tongue-in cheek read and is over on Valleywag.
