The iPhone is Nice but the Network its on Blows

I have been asked at least 20 times over the past two weeks are you getting a iPhone and I said no. When asked why I said if the phone had been launched on either Verizon or Sprint I would have jumped in with both feet.

But the AT&T / Cingular or whatever they are called these days has a network that is fine for calling people but their network connectivity absolutely blows. If your going to have a multi-media phone it better be able to connect to a EVDO network that has some juice behind it.

Think about it maximum speed that iPhone users are going to get is between 40kbps and 80kbbs in case I need to remind everyone thats about the speed of dial up.

While Sprint and Verizon have very robust EVDO networks that allow people to down load media on phones they have available today at rates approaching 1200kbps and uploads that are pushing 300kbps. As tested sitting here at my desk.

The article I am linking to thinks the iPhone will be a huge success and while I agree that Verizon totally blew it I think you are going to get some people on the EDGE network of AT&T that are going to be severely disappointed. gracefulflavor.net
