Soudcast iCast Review

When I upgraded my iPod last year I had a third generation unit that my wife has been using, cough cough getting dust on it. Well she has always complained that it has not been convenient for her to use it. She spends a great deal of time in our kitchen and dining room were she works on projects but we have only had a little radio in there for her.

When the iCast 2.4 Ghz wireless transmitter and receiver kit showed up I had a plan of action. I installed the very small transmitter unit in the Kitchen, using the kit they provided I found the correct base selection, and had it powered up and the dusty iPod in the cradle queued up and ready to play a little non podsafe music from the 80’s in just a couple of minutes.

I then took the receiver unit, and connected it to my stereo which is about 30 feet away in the living room, with the 500 watt amplifier and the Bose 901 Series V speakers. As soon as I plugged it in I saw a green connection light. I walked into the kitchen and hit play on the iPod immediately we had music coming out of the stereo in the living room that I had wired the receiver into a aux port of my system.

The sound was terrific I really could not tell the difference between a wired connection and the wireless connection the iCast provided. I happen to have a device on my stereo that allows me to plug the iPod in direct and we tried it both ways, and the sound out of the wireless was awesome. Best thing I like about these units is that you can expand to more than one receiver. You could have a receiver at the pool, connected out there, and at the same time play the same music in the house through another receiver all from a central location.

I did make a channel change on the units as you can select up to 5 channels, and found one that worked the best. Overall very positive experience. The transmitter even allows you to run a audio jack to a computer or another stereo close by when you don’t want to fire up the main entertainment system.

Great for homes that are not wired up and a great way to give my older iPod a new life. The two piece set is a bit pricey but well worth it and the units are very stylish and now I can breath new life into a iPod that was just collecting dust. In fact the 2 year old has been enjoying the long play of kids music on it. [www.soundcastsystems.com]
