Opportunity is now start to use on a frequent basis the Deep Sleep mode where the rover is basically shut all the way down to conserve power. Spirit has not had to be put in that mode as all of it’s on-board components continue to work as they are supposed to. With the malfunctioning switch keeping a heater on at night on Opportunity the rover was only getting 2-3 hours of work each day. [MarsToday]
