Dell, AT&T tout wireless Net access

Alright, I’ve been looking forward to something like this for a long long time! I started to read this story thinking, “yes, Yes, Yes!” When I got to the end of it, I was so mad! Dell and AT&T could’ve had it big! They could’ve been rolling in cash, but no- dial-up speeds, $224.99 modem, my oh my did they mess up. Although, the $29.99 per month price tag is the best we’ve seen, ever. What I would like to see in this is: A) Dude, no one is going to pay $250 for a modem, lower the price. B) Dial-up is harsh. Extremely harsh C) Make it avalible for PocketPC’s!

“Dell Computer customers will be able to connect to the Internet through AT&T’s cellular networks under a new agreement between the two companies.

Dell said customers who purchase access to the network no longer have to search for a wireless “hot spot”–a public area outfitted with wireless networks–before getting Internet access. Instead, they can use existing AT&T cellular networks anywhere the company provides coverage.

People who want to take advantage of the service must buy the tri-band SierraAirCard 750 wireless cellular modem, which they can purchase when they sign up for a service plans. The modems, which normally cost $299.99, are on sale for $224.99. Fees to access the network start at $29.99 per month and are based on megabytes used per month.” [News.com]
