RFID Chips will these devices be embedded in our Home’s Next

Radio Frequency Identification, is this the technology that is eventually going to spy on us in our homes and as we walk around. In some places it is already spying on us when we shop. As merchants try to develop profiles and trends that improve what they stock on their shelves and how merchandise is presented can actually make our shopping experiences more enjoyable. I do not necessarily like being a targeted shopper but if being a targeted/tracked shopper means that unique discounts will be offered to me on merchandise I like it may not be such a bad thing if used properly.

But as more and more devices are built with this embedded technology the tracking could get out of hand. I do not like the idea of someone driving by my house and being able to retrieve a virtual inventory of things I own.

There will and are serious invasion of privacy issues at which some point I am sure that legislation will have to be implemented to insure that we as consumers are not exploited outside of business that employ this technology. I am sure there will also be a need for merchants to disclose whether they are utilizing RFID technology.

Technology is amazing and eventually could become so obtrusive that it could affect the soul of our nation and radically change the world. [ZDNet]
