Xi3 Low Power PCs

Posted by Andrew at 5:45 PM on February 15, 2014

Xi3 Corporation LogoDavid shows off Xi3‘s latest developments including the X7A modular computer and the Z3RO Pro. If you haven’t seen Xi3′s offerings before, you need to check them out – they’re small cube-like units totally unlike your normal case.

The X7A is aimed at the power user with a quad core AMD Trinity processor, Radeon graphics, 8 GB RAM, SSD (up to 1 TB) and more ports than you can shake a stick at. The modular part means that in future you’ll be able to upgrade components without replacing the whole unit. Prices start at $1099.

The Z3RO Pro is more budget friendly, starting at $549. With only a dual core processor and 4 GB RAM, it’s more suited to general office activities, but it will run two monitors. The killer feature here is that it consumes only 15W of power.

Xi3 Modular Computers and Software

Posted by Alan at 8:55 AM on February 14, 2012

Last year Xi3 showed off a tiny modular computer that they were planning to bring to market, but now it’s actually available and there is some new software to make it even more capable.  As the name implies, almost everything about these tiny computers can be swapped out easily to change their functionality.  In addition, Xi3′s new software allows one of these little PC’s to power multiple users.

These computers pack a serious punch, with dual-core processors, 64-bit OS (either Windows or Linux), SSD storage, and they boast a Windows 7 Pro boot-up time of only 30 seconds.

They also showed off some new server solutions which are essentially the same as the modular desktop computer, but the ports on the back are somewhat different, as they are geared towards the server market.  You really need to see the mobile data center they created on the CES floor with these tiny micro-servers, but you will have to watch the video below for that.

The Xi3 Modular Microcomputer

Posted by tomwiles at 1:22 PM on January 23, 2011

David Politis of Xi3 Microcomputers (http://xi3.org/) presents the Xi3 Modular Computer. It is an extremely small form factor and operates on only 20 watts of power, yet contains a dual-core AMD Athlon x86 processor operating at 2 gigahertz. The standard model ships with 2 gigabytes of DDR 2 RAM and 8 gigabytes of solid SSD solid state drive memory.

The Xi3 is revolutionary in several different respects. Not only is the unit as small as possible, the motherboard is broken down into three modular, replaceable components. Thus it becomes possible to upgrade to the latest technologies such as USB 3.0 once it becomes widely available in the near future or to higher-performance future CPU processors.

Imagine the Xi3 as the heart of a high-performance, low-engergy-drain, absolutely silent-running Media Center PC. Since it’s x86 architecture running on a dual-core processor on a high-performance SSD drive it can easily boot Windows 7 Ultimate in 30 seconds flat.

Why didn’t someone think of this before?
