More Juice for your Apple iPhone

All smartphones drain batteries like electricity is going out of fashion but many external battery are bulky, fiddly or both. Gosh!‘s new Parallel battery for the iPhone 5 might be the first that’s both sleek and convenient.

The Parallel comes in two parts, the battery pack itself, and a matching iPhone case that makes connecting the phone to the battery an absolute doddle. The iPhone 5 can stay in the case when you don’t need the extra power, but as soon as the main phone battery starts to fall, whack in the extra battery and it’s good to go. The additional 2,500 mAh is a huge increase over the iPhone 5’s standard 1,440 mAh.

The Parallel battery has smooth lines that fit the iPhone 5’s taller size and the case comes in a choice of 5 colours too.

Gosh! Parallel iPhone 5 case and battery

The Parallel is on show at CES, North Hall, iLounge Pavilion, Booth 6723.

Samsung Bites Back: Sues Apple Over iPhone 5

The Apple v Samsung case that was decided a few weeks ago is still far from being over, with injunctions and appeals still pending, but now we seem to be moving on to act 2 regardless of that bit of unfinished business.  Today it was learned that the tables have turned and Samsung is now suing Apple over the iPhone 5.  The Galaxy maker is claiming that Apple has infringed on eight of their patents and adds to previous claims that Samsung had already filed.

“We have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights,” a Samsung company statement reads.  They claim the new iPhone 5 violates two of their standards-essential patents and six feature patents.  The case isn’t expected to go to trial until 2014.

It goes without saying that, while the Samsung-Apple battles have provided us with some humor, it really just spotlights the lousy condition of our patent laws.  Add that to the atrocious condition of our copyright laws and it’s really enough to make most people hang their heads in shame.  There is some great innovation going on out there, but it’s mostly being stifled by laws designed long before today’s technological world was shaped.

In the Shadow of a Giant

Steve JobsI was reading through my feeds this morning and came across this story Steve Jobs expected to attend Apple Event-but should he. This got me thinking how do you handle the transfer from the founder generation to the next, when the founding generation is still around. Steve Jobs is not just a founding member of todays tech world, he is one of the giants. Whether you are a fan of Jobs or not, there is no doubt that what he did at Apple has effected the world we live in today. When he resigned August 24 as CEO of Apple and handed the reins over too Tim Cook, it was time for him to leave the stage. For him to appear at this Apple event would not only be unfair to Tim Cook, but it would take away the spotlight from the true stars of the show, the products that are being introduced. If I was a conspiracy minded person I might think that maybe the only reason he might appear is the products are not as advanced as they wanted them to be. After all if everyone is talking about Steve Jobs’ appearance they are not talking about the products. I don’t believe this the reason, I think it is because it is hard to leave the stage especially if you are a star and Jobs is definitely a star.

Tim Cook

I am looking forward to hear about the products that are coming from Apple, whether it’s the iPhone 5, iPhone 4s or something else. I hope that Steve Jobs makes the right decision and stays away from this announcement. I hope he does make an appearance at a future event, just not this one. This one should belong to Tim Cook and those now around him.   What do you think will Steve Jobs appear at the event and should he.

Apple’s White Buffalo – iPhone

A White Buffalo is a rare thing. The Native American nation regards them highly – a sacred item. The calf comes out with blue eyes, as oppose to any other albino animal, which normally have pink eyes.

So is a white iPhone the sacred device?

Apple announced the other day the white version of an iPhone will not be available until Spring 2011. The reason why is the case becomes too light and effects the Facetime camera. They cannot have that.

Coming out in Spring could mean that the White iPhone might be an iPhone 5 on that speculated Verizon network. After all, since we’re talking about mythical items (at this time), we might as well put it all out there.

Maybe it’ll also have an FM radio on it.

I am not sure why people want a White iPhone. Is it a stylish thing? Is it functional? Why not a Bondi Blue, Strawberry, Lime, Grape or Tangerine like the iMac G3 was?

Would a White case be the answer? Not really, for having a case on an iPhone is not the stylish thing. I have a case on my iPhone – then again I have a 3GS. Oh yeah – Black case 3GS.

Well, at any rate, the white iPhone won’t be around until next year. Just remember – even with some White Buffalos, eventually some start to brown. Just like the white 3GS’s did when the processor overheated.
