MSI has Two New Ultra-Portable Gaming Notebooks

MSI SteelSeries keyboardMSI has announced two new thin and light notebooks that are designed for serious gamers. They are the GS60 Ghost and the GS70 Stealth gaming notebooks. Each comes in either a 17-inch or a 15-inch model. Both are part of MSI’s GS Series.

The GS60 Ghost is the lightest 15-inch notebook to hit the market. It is the first gaming notebook to use Mg-Li alloy in its design. Both the GS60 Ghost and the GS70 Stealth use NVIDIA GeForce BTX 860M/870M Graphics. They come with 4th Gen Intel Core i7 processor.

For sound, these gaming notebooks use Sound Blaster Cinema, Dynaudio speakers and MSI Audio Boost technology. They are able to output to 4K displays and can connect to multiple independent monitors simultaneously using the Matrix Multi-Monitor Display.

Both the GS60 Ghost and the GS70 Stealth have the SteelSeries full-color backlight keyboard with Anti-Ghosting capabilities. They have the SteelSeries Engine which allows gamers the ability to personalize their playing style with over a billion customization options.

You won’t have to worry about these gaming notebooks getting too loud or too hot. They have two ultra-slim fans and a better and more intelligent air flow design that works with ultra-slim builds. Both the fan and temperature control performance have been improved, resulting in faster reduction of temperature and less noise. MSIs GS70 Stealth and GS60 Ghost are available at $1,699.99.

Podcasting News

pcn-itunesIf you have been reading this site for any given amount of time, you may remember that the first site my team launched in the podcasting space was PodcasterNews.com. It was a site that had at it’s peak over 100 podcasters covering the news of the day on a variety of topics. While the site never scaled to where it needed to be, it was the pre-cursor of Blubrry.com and everything else we have done.

With my teams permission, I have re-launched Podcaster News to be a site that covers news, reviews & general happenings in the podcasting space. We have a team of 6 writers to start and will ramp up from there. The team members are introducing themselves so as we get ramped up, I hope you check the site out from time to time.

Deal of the day — Roku 3 hits Woot at $64.99

roku-3Recently Roku released its Chromecast-like steaming stick. This comes on the heels of a version 3 release last year of the set-top box, an update that came with a remote that has a headphone jack built-in, allowing private watching for those times when the house needs to be quiet. The box retails for $99.99, but if you act today, you can get a deal.

Today only, Woot, the daily deal site now owned by Amazon, is offering the little set-top box for the price of $64.99 — a savings of $35 over the regular price.

“Faster and more powerful than ever. Enjoy 1,000+ channels of movies, TV shows, sports, and more. Plug headphones into the motion-control remote to play games or watch late-night flicks without disturbing the household. Fully loaded with one-stop search, 1080p, dual-band wireless, Ethernet, USB, plus a free Roku app. The Roku 3—the new streaming standard”, Woot describes it.

Roku is perhaps the prime player in an increasingly competitive market that includes Google and Apple as the other big players, though Microsoft’s new Xbox One is also a part of this, though it does more than just video. And remember, you can watch the Geek News Central podcast on it as well!

Satechi Flexible LED Desk Lamp also charges your mobile devices

Thanks to overhead lighting, I have not owned a desk lamp in quite some time, but Satechi may just change that. After all, my desk no longer contains just a desktop computer — there are also other devices, including multiple tablets and mobile phones. Those present a problem for charging. While the USB hub has enough ports to handle them all, it is slower than a wall connector.

Now Satechi steps in to provide dual functionality — some added light, as well as USB charging with the power of a wall outlet. The light is a flexible model, so it can be aimed where needed, and a USB port is hidden on the back.

Other features are also included, according to Satechi. “The user-friendly, touch-sensitive lamp has controls for turning on and adjusting brightness with the touch of a button. Additionally, the environmentally-friendly lamp only consumes 8 watts of power, up to 80% less than a typical fluorescent light”.

The lamp is available now from Satechi. It retails for $59.99, and you can check it out in the video below.

We are Expanding!

Over the next several weeks, there will be a major transformation here at Geek News Central. We are taking each of the properties. Gadget Professor, New Media Show, Robot Underpants and Chrome Show and we are moving them to their own landing pages.

This is also in anticipation of expansion of the shows that are here. All of the content from our family of sites will be available here at Geek News Central.. But excuse the mess while we are tearing the walls down and building them back up..

We are trying to do this without breaking anything here so if you see something weird please be patient with us as we make the changes. It is a massive amount of work, but once completed the site will be updated, shiny and new.

GNC #936 Dyn.com Acquisition of Nettica.com

You are going to love the story I am going to share about a acquisition and customer transition plan gone so bad you are going to shake your head at how a email chain is causing me to spend a lot of time moving to a new DNS Provider.

BitTorrent Sync 1.3 Now Supports Windows Phones

BitTorent sync-infographicBitTorrent Sync is an app that allows you to easily share your data through synced folders. It gives you an easy way to send important data from your computer or smartphone in a way that enables a client to access it. As a podcaster, I can see how BitTorrent Sync would be useful for sharing raw audio files that were recorded as part of a podcast with the person who will be doing the editing.

BitTorrent Sync previously offered an enhanced mobile experience for Android and iOS. Now, it has expanded to Windows Phone. This means those that use Windows Phone can now use BitTorrent 1.3. It also means that those who use Android or iOS can share their files through BitTorrent 1.3 with a person who is using Windows Phone.

You can download and use BitTorrent Sync for free. There are no size limits or caps on how much you can share through it. BitTorrent Sync skips the cloud, so your files are delivered at lightning speed.

Another great thing about BitTorrent Sync is the big idea behind it. The Official BitTorrent Blog explains it well:

Your data belongs to you. Not to advertisers. Not the NSA. Not the cloud. Sync lets you share information freely; direct to the people (and devices) you choose. Your information stays with you. Wherever you are.

With over 30 years’ experience in the film industry, Orca’s research and development team has created a top-flight range of gear bags and accessories. The team produced the entire Orca line specifically for the audio-visual industry, designing a range of smart bags and accessories, carefully crafted to carry and protect video, lighting and sound equipment.

Integrating with their new Trolley System, Orca’s designs include the Audio Bag, Shoulder Video Bag, Light Case, and Backpack, incorporating aluminium frames and multiple access points for both protection and convenience. Additional offerings will include the Rain Cover and LCD Hood, and the full product line will be on show at NAB.

Band Pro Film & Digital have confirmed that they will carry the range following Orca’s NAB launch. Amnon Band, Band Pro’s President and CEO, remarked: “These are the best bags I’ve seen in a long time.  We’ve always prided ourselves on carrying nothing but the best, and that’s what Orca products are.  I’m really impressed with their entire product line.”
