HDBaseT Alliance

Posted by KL Tech Muse at 6:25 PM on February 28, 2013

HDBase The HDBaseT Alliance was founded in 2010 by LG Electronics, SamsungSony Pictures Entertainment and Valen Semiconductor to promote the use of HDBaseT Technology. A HDBaseT device would enable a single LAN cable to replace multiple cables and connectors in a home or business environment. A single cable using this technology can go up to 100 meters and you can have up to eight connections (8×100).

The base technology is 5Play which allows one CAT5e/6 LAN cable to handle uncompressed HD video, 4K video, audio, ethernet and even power, You can connect one device to multiple displays in multiple rooms. For example you could connect one blue ray player to multiple monitors in different rooms. The system will also pass along an infrared signal and will also works with a wireless system.

The HDBaseT Alliance has recently been joined by Panasonic, Pioneer, Epson and Belkin. The alliance deals both with manufactures but also talks to consumers. They realize that the consumer is the one that often pressures manufactures to install the new technology. More information about the HDBaseT Alliance can be found at their website

Worth Avenue Group Protecting Your Portable Devices

Posted by KL Tech Muse at 2:33 PM on February 28, 2013

WorthWorth Avenue Group sells third-party protection for your portable electronic devices, including laptops, smartphones, tablets, e-readers gaming systems and cameras. Unlike other competitors and programs such as Apple Care which only cover accidental damage sometimes, the Worth Avenue Group covers accidental damage, vandalism, fire power surges and even theft. It cover each item at full value for unlimited incidents. If the item is stolen or totaled Worth Avenue Group will often replace it with a new model.

The cost of the policy depends on the item or items you want to cover. There is a model which included a deductible and a zero deductible model. Although Worth Avenue Group does have places that you can send a damage item to, they actually prefer to have the client find a repair shop in their local area if possible. Worth Avenue Group does offer a bundle options if you wanted to add something like an iPod Touch to a policy.

Further information about the Worth Avenue Group and the coverage that they provide can be found at their website.  Maybe a little insurance coverage for your portable devices it not such a bad idea.

Liquipel: Protect Your Device From Water

Posted by KL Tech Muse at 8:14 AM on February 28, 2013

Liquipel Liquipel is a nano technology that is applied to devices to act as a liquid repellant. It treats both the inside and outside of the device. This is done without having to take the device apart. Liquipel is applied at the shop and it bonds at a molecular level. The nano coating is 1,000x thinner than a human hair. Since the application is done without having to disassemble the device the warranty is not effected.

The Liquipel newest product is Liquipel 2.0 which was developed to help repeal salt water. Salt water even in the air can corrode a device over time. Many people who live near the ocean in places like Florida were asking for something that would help repeal salt water and Liquipel came up with Liquipel 2.0.

At this time all the work has to be done in shop, so you have to send the device in. They are working on a 4x4x4 unit that can go into retail locations, so the user doesn’t have to ship the device out. It is $59.95 to treat a phone and $89.95 for a tablet. If it fits into the machine they can treat it.
