Cavium Networks

Andy McCaskey talks to Cavium Networks about their solution to distribute video content throughout a home.  For instance, they want users to be able take content from, say a Blu-ray player that is hooked to a TV in the living room, and watch it on a different TV in the bedroom.  You could even control the device with a remote from a different part of the home.  To do all of this they use a very small settop box (about the size of the Apple TV 2).  The company’s broader plan is to get integrated directly into consumer electronics devices like TV’s, PC’s, and DVD players.

Expect to see these tiny boxes hit the market in the second quarter of 2011 with a retail price of $199 for a pair.  The promises here are high, but delivering such a solution that actually works as seamlessly as consumers expect is quite another thing.  We will see soon if this is truly what we have been waiting for.
