Go To College Without Going to College

I was perusing TechCrunch this morning and found Academic Earth, a hulu-like resource for academic lectures. I had been using the online lectures at MIT for several years with my kids. That has been a good resource for those homeschooling high-school-age students. But Richard Ludlow, once a struggling math student, has put together Academic Earth, pulling together all of the free college-level lectures online into one place. I just spent a good half-hour playing with searching for keywords, navigating through the subject listings, and finding some very good lectures from some very interesting instructors.

Subject matter ranges from economics to English to physics to political science to religion to math at all levels. I could spend hours every day listening to some of these lectures, including the series of five lectures on the current financial crisis.

I’m so impressed. I know this is not really tech-related, but this is a resource many could use. And twenty years ago, we couldn’t have even dreamed of such a resource being available at the click of a mouse.
