Zune MarketPlace Podcast Subscriptions Explode!

ZunegraphOver a week ago I instructed Angelo the CIO at RawVoice to make sure that we were ready when the new Zunes were introduced. I wanted to make sure that our podcast stats service was ready to track the Zune MarketPlace Downloads.

Today while I was checking my personal podcast stats. I found that we had obtained an amazing number of downloads from people using the Zune MarketPlace.

One thing is readily apparent. The Big Bold “Podcast” listing on the Zune Menu on the player, and the one click subscription method is going to really increase the reach of Podcasting.

Here is the main reason it may be more significant than iTunes and the iPod over time. In the iTunes menu you have to dig and dig to find Podcast but one thing that the folks at Zune did was make podcasting as prominent as music and the podcast content is easy to find.

While the Zune Player is lower in Market share than the iPod by a long stretch, the simple fact that people are going to be able to find podcast easier in the Zune Marketplace is significant.

That would be awesome but I am still waiting for them to accept me. I wish they would email saying that they accepted or declined you. I sumbitted the day the new marketplace game out and I am still not listed there.

That’s very surprising, and very encouraging. You didn’t show the numbers though, just the percentages. Was there a corresponding increase in the total number of downloads, or did it stay the same. In other words, do the Zune downloads represent completely new subcribers, or are they subscribers that may have been accessing via iTunes/iPod or some application?

Also, is there anyway to determine multiple downloads by the same subscriber, perhaps by checking IP addresses? For example, I know quite a few people that have more than one MP3 device that they use regularly.
